Equine dental practitioners balance the irregularities in
the horse’s teeth. Regular dental care is necessary
and important for the health, wellbeing and ride-
ability of the horse – just like correct shoeing.

About 90 per cent of horses today suffer from
tooth problems unnecessarily. Depending on
the age of the horse, the teeth should be
professionally checked and attended to
every six to twelve months, advises
Internationale Gesellschaft zur Funk-
tionsverbesserung der Pferdezähne
e.V. (IGFP).

Regular examination should
begin while horses are still
young. Within the first years
of life in particular, deviations
from normal tooth position
and problems caused by
breaking milk teeth can be
recognised and treated early.
A regular check-up and care of
the teeth is the best prevention.
